The assignment was to transfer a painter's themes and style from their 2D canvas to a three dimensional representation in space and time, using light on scenery and music, in addition to giving an hour and a half lecture on their body of work. I focused on Samantha Keely Smith, an artist currently based in New York City. She has described her work as images flitting from our peripheral vision, scenes from an emotional landscape that humanity shares. I interviewed her for the project, and assembled the piece in 9 hours from materials scrounged from NCSA's Large Light Lab.
